Here are some activities taking place in the area to celebrate the winter holidays:

  • Tuba concert – December 12, 2015 (1:30 to 3 p.m.):  Hear 300 tubas play in unison at the Tuba Christmas Concert in Pioneer Courthouse Square.  Free.

  • Holiday marketplace – December 8 – 10, 2015:  Shop for holiday gifts from 38 artists at Portland Artisan Festival in Pioneer Courthouse Square. Free.

  • Holiday improve – December 9 – 31, 2015:  A Christmas Carol: Twist Your Dickens is a zany sendup of the holiday classic, based on audience suggestions, with adult humor at Gerding Theater. Discount tickets $32.

  • Holiday craft show – December 12 – 13, 2015:  Shop from 200 creative artists and craft makers at the Crafty Wonderland Super Colossal Holiday Sale at the Oregon Convention Center. Repeats in May. Free.

  • Christmas train – December 12 – 20, 2015 (weekends):  Take a one-hour ride along the Willamette River and meet Santa on the decorated Holiday Express train, which leaves the station at 7805 SE Oaks Park Way.

  • Drive-through light show – December 8 – 27, 2015:  Billed as the largest holiday light show west of the Mississippi, Winter Wonderland has 250 displays at Portland International Raceway. Closed Dec. 1 & 7.

  • Christmas in the Garden – Dec. 10, 2015 – Jan. 3, 2016 (schedule):  Christmas in the Garden features 400,000 lights, festive music, warm fires, a Christmas market, ice skating, and Santa at Oregon Garden in Silverton. Closed Dec. 24 & 25.

  • Christmas at the mansion – December 12 – 23, 2015 (6 to 10 p.m.):  Visit the Victorian Belle mansion and its 2.5-acre grounds to see millions of lights and hear holiday music during The Miracle of a Million Lights.
